They are known for their strength, intelligence, obedience, and extraordinary trainability. They are commonly used as working dogs, either for disability assistance or for police work. Most German Shepherds have a tan and black two-layer coat although rare variation such as pure white and pure black do exist. German Shepherds are also very well known for their amazing scent work.
